recognition

I am deeply honored to have been nominated for several awards; however, awards are not what Shift is about. For this reason, I have chosen not to write posts when given an award but instead add them here and thank my nominators with a note on my main page. For more on why I have chosen to do this, please read my post “thank you.”

  1. Haha, are you serious with this: ‘I don’t have a favorite author?’

You did an English major, are doing writing work, and you don’t have a favorite author. Why?

Seriously, I just finished Arundhati Roy’s ‘The God of Small Things’ and now I understand why she’s brilliant. I read Carlos Fuentes, the same. I just love those authors, and many others, perhaps too many.

    • A good guess. Close friends of my family have a special term for us: They say we “Cypherize” things. Ha! But I think I’m the only one nutty enough to vacuum every day. :D

  2. Congratulations!!! These awards are well deserved. I have only been blogging for a short period of time and I am glad that I have stumbled into your blog. Keep up the good blogging.

  3. 11. Do you believe in true love? Yes.

sorry… i just couldn’t resist… and am addressing WordPress here. Is there true and false love? If false then is not love is it?
Love is love, there is no measure of any kind; length, quantity, true or false etc. You guys need to rephrase.
    With Kind Regards

    • Perhaps a better question would have been “Do you believe in love at first sight?” Unless, of course, you’re referring to selfless love—which is “true love.” Not all fully understand that.

  4. You said:

    “Seven Things About Me:

    Here’s why we’re friends:

    I’m great at organizing.
I love making vanilla soy chai lattes.
My favorite possession(s) is my guitar gear.
My favorite flavor for anything is peach.
    I also don’t have a favorite author.
I rarely watch movies or TV.
I don’t know if I’m a true introvert, but I definitely tend to lean that way in most circumstances.

    :-)

    • You are if not an introvert at least very introspective, dear friend—that I know from some of the conversations we’ve had. I didn’t know you were good at organizing! Did you know Joanie Evans once hired me to organize her pantry for her? Hahaha. Yes, there are many reasons we are good friends, and one of the best of them is that you have a great (big) heart.

      Cheers, Jess

    • Thanks so much, Mike. I actually have a few other awards to follow up on, too, but alas… Writing posts is far more important to me! :P My friend Hoss recently mentioned I should compile my works into an e-book, too. I’ll have to follow up on that. Thanks for the interest and encouragement!

      • I think I agree with Hoss. Your talent is innate, and you’re obviously dedicated to quality from the inside. Because of that, I’d say “one caveat” is to make the business side incidental and fun as possible, so it doesn’t interfere with what you love: living richly within and without, and writing from that. I have to remind myself of that. It’s the reality we write about that inspires us, and the rich inner life informs the writing. Keep on!
