staying sane

FullSizeRender2I’m running after work. I run or ride every day at 5. (It’s the only way I stay sane in desk job.) The sun is shining, warm, though falling fast. Shadows creep and fields glow, golden. But as my feet hit the pavement, my mind is miles away — Dr. Haluska is gone, and gone far too soon. How many years do I have left? What will I do with them? . . .

Suddenly, I glance left. I gasp at the glorious scene. It’s a mad world we live in, but there is always beauty to be seen.

    • Something to look forward to — and to move. (You know how I feel about exercise, lol.) Exercising after work (from work) is also a great way to beat traffic on the drive home!

It’s easy to get stuck in the hum-drum and to get down when reading the news. That’s why we have to focus on the positive, the good things we do have. Life is beautiful — we just have to see.

    • Yes, there are good people! And there are beautiful things. The media tends to highlight only the bad. It’s up to us to look for beauty and light. Happy weekend, Mabel!

  1. You don’t know how much I needed this post and the pictures. For a couple of months I was able to run several evenings a week and go for the weekend bike ride, but the last few weeks have been incredibly difficult. Your pictures and the title of this post help me remember why I need to. Thank you.

    • I’m so glad to hear that, King. I’ve been putting my after-work ride or run before just about everything else — and it’s been a good thing. Without them, I’m a much grumpier, more stressed-out person. I’m convinced God gave us sunrises and sunsets and exercise for a reason.

Hope things start looking up for you soon and that you get to ride this weekend!! It’s Friday!! :)

  2. Just beautiful. I can relate to maintaining sanity with a jog. It’s while I’m jogging that some of my ideas surface. Do you jog to music?

  3. How many slams in an old screen door?
Depends how loud you shut it.
How many slices in a bread?
Depends how thin you cut it.
How much good inside a day?
Depends how good you live ‘em.
How much love inside a friend?
Depends how much you give ‘em.

~ I mentioned how D and I were reading some poems at night. Here is a fav for you from Shel Silverstein Big hug for you Jess for making this world a better place…

  4. I love this, we are kindred spirits in this sense ~ nothing quite like a run (or getting out somewhere for exercise) to bring the mind back into balance with the world around (a world always changing ~ always shifting, and sadness and uncertainty is such a big part of it). Wishing you the very best Jessica ~ take care and enjoy the weekend.
